Baby Micheal | Acrylic painting 20x20cm

For this work, I was inspired by Micheal Schilkin’s ceramic works I had seen during the summer of 2022 while volunteering at the Finlayson Art Area in Tampere. This chimpanzee stood out to me as when I was a child, my grandmother would give me many gifts associated with monkeys, chimpanzees, etc, similar to many would get themed gifts surrounding dogs or cats.

For technique, I used a recycled painting cloth, stapled it to an MDF board, gessoed over it, used dust from sanding gouache paintings, and then created the chimp you see here.
